Hope alls good wid you all? Here’s a little dilemma of mine which has been with me for as long as I can remember. Being raised in a Caribbean household, especially as my parents are Jamaican, I am not ashamed to say I have a love for the national dish.
I remember my Mum telling me, “If you ever was to see that fish head, you would neva eat it, it so ugly they have to cut its head off at sea”. OK, this info would be filed in my subconscious like many of Mums folktales and sayings, for later retrieval.
Got this email from a friend which took me back to the above conversation, and I’m sharing these interesting pics wid you all.I also came across this related artical from the Jamaica Gleaner: In search of the saltfish head.

I do believe that it is the saltfish. If we keep our minds caged up and not be open to the real world then we will never move on in life. Because life is not what you see its what you make of it.

OMG I really don’t know what to believe a side of me is telling this is slatfish and the next side say no its not. I feel like I can’t eat this fish ever again.

I stopped eating this fish when I saw the pictures years ago. What is it? Why is it so seldom seen or heard about? Why havent I seen a David Attiburgh, or the likes, documentary on this species? Questions, questions. This is a truley frightening thing. What does it eat? I can’t believe Jamaican people would continue to eat this instead of cod.

well i believe that this ia what a salt fish really looks like… i grew up in st.kitts and i remember a story about the saltfish looking very human like in appearance and having arm like hands as fins. The story is that they used to bring the salt fish alive in fishing boats. one time the salt fish somehow got a way and began to “run” (or drag it self as the case may be) down the bay road, through the town….when people saw it and rumors began to spread as to the fish appearance the industry began to suffer and ever since they always cut off the heads of this fish before importing……
well my grandad is senile and when i show him the picture he ask me y i have a picture of that ugly saltfish. i have never eaten saltfish i’ve never bin allowed. coz my grandad was a fisherman.
I am no sure if its really saltfish but what I do know, this girl will not be eating saltfish again.
But wait deh afta nuh fish a sea name “saltfish” anyway…suh mi nuh know who dem a fool. Di “saltfish” wi eat iz actually Codfish…or Salted Codfish as it is most commonly known…dat rass deer unnu showin look lakka sum’n fram Creechaz Fram Di Black Lagoon…lol…di Science Hexperrment get weh….!!!

boy i don’t know what to believe,if that is truly what it looks like then man kind would really be evil to really catch it and come back and sell it to us,i am keeping my options open, that more look like a merman to me!!!!
I cannot believe it. It looks so real, however like one of the comments above, why has there not been a documentary about this. David Attenborough has studied hundreds of species in England and overseas. I think I might send an email to the BBC and ITV network asking them to investigate this and see what happens other than that I am going to continue to eat my saltfish.

For all these time they had me eatin a human from the sea….I’m not going to eat it again because I’m not a cannibal!!!!! They need to take it off the shelf! If you eat this, then you will eat garbage…….
This a good joke to pull if you know any thing about fish you can see the is not real. just take a good look at it and then look a a normal fish and you will see that it is a fake.
if that is saltfish why arent there documentaries about it bcaause that is surely abnormal and creepy
